DBD: login failed, probably a symptom of a deeper problem in Oracle
When I tried to upgrade Oracle Customer Care and Billing (CC&B) system by clicking cdxdbi.exe in a client, I got an error in the middle of installation like this:
...
Connecting to the Target Database as user system
User Name : system
Database Name : CCB
Couldn't connect to database Oracle CCB system: Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019 (DBD: login failed, probably a symptom of a deeper problem)
Error Occured, Process being aborted ...
Press Enter to Continue ...
It looked like a Perl error message, but I can't sure about it. According to the installation manual, we shall use 32-bit clients to install CC&B. I did use a 32-bit client, but it's an Oracle instant client. So I think we shall use a full-installer of Oracle clients instead of Oracle instant clients.
Solution
I had ever tried Oracle client 9.2 32-bit for installing CC&B, even though it's able to go a little bit further, but I met some problems later.
Finally, I decided to use Oracle client 12.2.0.1 32-bit for Windows as my tool to install CC&B. The environment dedicated for installing CC&B system is described as followings:
- Windows 7 64-bit is prepared.
- Oracle client 12.2.0.1 32-bit for Windows is installed.
I think Windows server 2008 64-bit should also be fine.
The package is from Oracle Software Delivery Cloud. You need to sign-on in order to get it. The better thing is that this client includes JDK 1.8 which is required by later upgrades.
If you already have Oracle client installed, but can't tell whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit, there's a way to check whether it's a 32-bit Oracle client or not.
